THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: En route to Thiruvananthapuram airport on Monday evening, governor Arif Mohammed Khan got out of his car to confront black flag-waving protesters belonging to SFI.
“They hit my car. Is it the way of democratic protest? Will they allow anybody to go near the vehicle of the CM”, he asked. “The chief minister has hatched this conspiracy to harm me physically.

He had done so in Kannur too”, he alleged, as he repeatedly called the protesters “bloody criminals”.
The incident took place around 7pm when the governor was going to catch a flight to New Delhi. SFI workers first waved black flags at him near Kerala University library and in the melee someone banged on the governor’s car. The motorcade managed to slip through. There were attempts to wave black flags at him at the General Hospital junction. The governor stopped his car at Pettah and came out daring the protesters, who were shouting slogans accusing him of trying to saffronize universities, to hit him.
“I won’t let the streets of Thiruvananthapuram be ruled by goons”, he was heard saying. The governor got into the car and resumed his travel to the airport after police took the protesters away. City police commissioner C H Nagaraju has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Police have taken 19 SFI workers, including seven for banging on the governor’s vehicle, into custody.
