Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited now charges over Rs 6,000 for smart prepaid meters on new electricity connections. This mandatory installation follows a recent order. Existing consumers are exempt from this charge. Over 1.74 lakh new connection applications were received recently. Many applications are pending due to the higher meter cost.
