Justice Anand Venkatesh of Madras High Court conveyed to lawyers in his courtroom that he plans to retain the original names for IPC, CrPC, and the Evidence Act, even in the face of their replacement by new acts with Hindi titles.

“Anand Venkatesh of Madras High Court, during a recent case on the limitation period under Section, conveyed to lawyers that he intends to persist in using the original names like IPC, CrPC, and the Evidence Act, even if replaced by new acts with Hindi names”

Will refer to IPC as IPC only because I don’t know that language”, the judge said.

“August of the previous year witnessed The Madras Bar Association raising concerns, passing a resolution opposing the renaming of IPC, Evidence Act, and CrPC in Hindi. Citing constitutional provisions, the Association pleaded for the retention of English names. Subsequently, on December 25, 2023, Presidential assent was granted to the three bills—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Sanhita—proposed to replace IPC, CrPC, and the Evidence Act, respectively.”
